Richard Gasquet and Roger Federer meet in the quarterfinals of the 2015 US Open.

Richard Gasquet is coming off a four set win over Tomas Berdych and has played 16 sets this tournament. Gasquet is winning at least 75 percent of his first serve points and 49 percent of his second serve points. Gasquet has combined for 25 aces, 126 winners and 84 unforced errors in his last three matches. Gasquet is doing a great job with his service game, as he’s winning a high percentage with his first serve and has won at least 67 percent of his second serve points in two of his last three matches. The concern now has to be fatigue for Gasquet, as he’s played a lot of lengthy matches leading up to this contest. This is Gasquet’s third grand slam quarterfinal appearance since 2013 and second this season. Gasquet has made one semifinal appearance at the US Open, which was in 2013.

Roger Federer is coming off a straight sets win over John Isner and has played nine sets this tournament. Federer is winning at least 72 percent of his first serve points and 55 percent of his second serve points. Federer has combined for 31 aces, 138 winners and 67 unforced errors in his last three matches. Federer is playing clean tennis, as he’s had no more than 26 unforced errors in all of his matches and is getting at least 59 percent of his first serves in play. Federer also hasn’t had any lengthy matches, which makes him fresh for a true run at a title. This is Federer’s eighth grand slam quarterfinal appearance since 2013. Federer has reached at least the semifinal in nine of his last 11 US Open appearances.

These two have played 16 times, and Federer has won 14 of those meetings. The most recent match was in Dubai of this year, and Fed won after Gasquet retired. Gasquet’s most recent win over Federer came in the 2011 Rome Masters. Since then, Fed has won six meetings over Gasquet. This will be the ninth time these two meet on hard court.

Gasquet has very little success against Federer in his career, which can’t lead to much confidence heading into this match. Federer is also fresher heading into this contest, giving him a huge advantage.

Expect Fed to reach the US Open semifinals once again.
