Roberto Bautista Agut and Jaume Munar meet in the second round of the Swiss Open.

Roberto Bautista Agut is coming off a semifinals appearance in Halle, but he was forced to retire early in that match after slipping five games into things. Bautista Agut is in pretty decent form, as he’s won five of his last seven matches, but his health is obviously a major question heading into this match considering he hasn’t played since the retirement. Bautista Agut hasn’t lost an opening match of a tournament since the Miami Masters, so he at least has that going for him. When playing well, Bautista Agut has been able to win a high number of his first serve points and has managed to do just enough with the few break points he’s earned. Bautista Agut has split his last six matches on clay court.

Jaume Munar is coming off a straight sets win over Adrian Menendez Maceiras that took 13 games to decide. In the victory, Munar won 76 percent of his first serve points and 77 percent of his second serve points. Munar is coming off an effortless first round victory in which he dropped just nine of 38 service points and won 57 percent of his return points. Munar has really enjoyed clay this season, as he’s won two recent titles in challenger play on this surface and seems to have taken that ability to the bigger tournaments. Of course, this is a big step up in competition for Munar, but there’s no denying his current form and the fact he just dominated a player by winning the final 11 games in a row. Munar has won 11 of his last 12 matches on clay court.

This will be the first ever meeting between these two players.

Munar is worth a look here considering his current form and the fact Bautista Agut was hurt the last time we saw him. However, it goes without saying that Bautista Agut would have withdrawn from this tournament if he didn’t think he was OK. So, assuming Bautista Agut is good to go, he should win this match. Bautista Agut is a massive upgrade in competition from what Munar has faced recently, and he’s going to put a lot of pressure on him with his serve.

A competitive straight sets match, but Bautista Agut is on the winning side.

Pick:
Roberto Bautista Agut -240
