Roberto Bautista-Agut and Jaume Munar meet in the second round of the 2019 tennis Swiss Open.
Roberto Bautista-Agut will play his first match since making the semifinals of the Wimbledon and enters this tournament winning eight of his last 11 matches overall. Bautista-Agut has shown a more consistent serve during this winning stretch and has been a lot more successful with his winner to unforced error ratio. As long as Bautista-Agut is hitting his spots and serving well, he’s capable of giving anybody in this field a run for their money and should be considered a threat to win this event. Bautista-Agut hasn’t lost an opening match of a tournament since Madrid. Bautista-Agut has split his last six matches on clay court.
Jaume Munar is coming off a three sets win over Malek Jaziri that took 31 games to decide. In the victory, Munar won 85 percent of his first serve points and 54 percent of his second serve points. Munar won 76 percent of his total service points and converted on two of his four break points. Munar got 72 percent of his first serves in play and faced just two break points throughout the victory that took a little over two hours. It was a feel good victory for the 22-year-old Spaniard, considering he entered this tournament on a nine-match losing streak. Munar looks to win back-to-back matches for the first time since Barcelona. Munar has lost three of his last four matches on clay court.
These two played once, which was in last years Swiss Open, a match Bautista-Agut won in three sets. The match took 25 games to be decided.
Munar has to do a lot more than beating a player outside of the top-100 to convince me he’s back on track, as these last few months have been rough to say the least. Bautista-Agut is well rested and enters this contest playing some of his more consistent tennis. As long as Bautista-Agut manages his unforced errors, he should cruise in this match.
Bautista-Agut advances to the quarterfinals.
