Roberto Bautista Agut vs Matthew Ebden - 2/6/19 ATP Tour - Sofia Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Spanish tennis superstar, Roberto Bautista Agut will begin his 2019 ATP Sofia Open in the second round where he will be facing Matthew Ebden from Australia.

Roberto Bautista Agut received a bye in the opening round due to his high seeding. It has been a very strong start to 2019 for Agut as he won the ATP Qatar Open in the opening week where he beat Novak Djokovic. Agut followed that by performing very well at the Australian Open where he made it into the quarterfinals. During the Australian Open, Roberto Bautista Agut returned serve exceptionally well as he averaged 5 break points won per match for the entire tournament. Roberto Bautista Agut has an exceptional record at the Sofia Open as he won this title in 2016. With the venue in his favor, Agut will be very hard to stop considering his current form.

On the other side of the coin, Matthew Ebden won his opening round fixture in 3 sets. It was a tough match for Ebden as he won just over 50% of the points played while losing 4 service games. That being said, Ebden held his nerve well during the final set as he won a third set tiebreaker to secure victory.  It has been a tough 2019 season for Ebden as his record for the season stands at 2-2. With that in mind, it is going to be very hard for Matthew Ebden to compete against Roberto Bautista Agut.

Matthew Ebden and Roberto Bautista Agut have played once in the past. The match was played in 2014 where Roberto Bautista Agut won in straight sets.

All in all, I am picking Roberto Bautista Agut to win this match. Agut has been playing incredible tennis and that has been evident considering his title win in Qatar. Having already won this tournament in the past, the conditions should suit Roberto Bautista Agut which should be enough for the Spaniard to beat a struggling Matthew Ebden.

Pick:
Roberto Bautista Agut
