Tennis | Benoit Paire vs Roger Federer
Danielle Parhizkaran-USA TODAY Sports

World number 2, Roger Federer has made it into the second round of the 2018 ATP US Open. The Swiss master will be taking on Benoit Paire from France. Both of these players are hugely experienced and have been playing on the ATP tour for over a decade. These two players have played 6 times before with Roger Federer winning on all of the occasions.

Benoit Paire will know about his poor record against Roger Federer and will be keen to get a win over the Swiss master. The Frenchman looked solid in his opening round win as he beat Denis Novak in 4 sets. This will be a much harder test for Benoit Paire than the opening round match and it will take an incredible performance from the Frenchman to allow him to compete with Roger Federer.

Roger Federer won his opening round match with great ease as the Swiss master finished the task in straight sets. Federer has only played one event after Wimbledon which was the Cincinnati Masters where he finished second. While the result was a positive and the low workload means he is well rested, there was a concern regarding his loss in the final. The loss was at the hands of Novak Djokovic who Federer is expected to meet at the quarterfinals. These earlier round games will be a great chance for Roger Federer to build some momentum so he is better equipt if he ends up facing Djokovic.

All in all, I am going to predict that Roger Federer will win this match. This is a pretty safe pick since I don’t think Benoit Paire is good enough to cause the world number 2 any problems. This should be an easy win for Roger Federer and I expect him to win in straight sets.
