Roger Federer has made it into the fourth round of the 2019 ATP Miami Open where he will play against Daniil Medvedev from Russia.
Roger Federer looked in very good form in his previous match as he won in straight sets. During the win, Federer served exceptionally well as he hit 13 aces and won 70% of the points played during his service games. Federer won 91% of his service games and 3 return games to set up a comfortable win for the Swiss Master. Federer has been in incredible form over the past few weeks as the finished second at the Indian Wells Open and won the Dubai Tennis Championship prior to arriving at Miami.
On the other side of the coin, Daniil Medvedev won his previous match in 3 sets. It was a very close match for Medvedev as all 3 sets were decided by tiebreakers. The serving by both Medvedev and his opponent was exceptional as neither player lost a single service game in the entire match. While the serving was noteworthy, it is important to notice that Medvedev returned very poorly as he only won 24% of his return points. Medvedev will have to improve his returning if he wishes to compete with Roger Federer.
Daniil Medvedev and Roger Federer have played twice in the past with Federer winning on both occasions. The most recent match between Federer and Medvedev was in 2018 at the ATP Swiss Indoors where Federer won in straight sets.
As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Roger Federer to win. Federer is the stronger player and he has looked in incredible form over the past few months. Federer has a 2-0 record against Medvedev and I see him improving on that by winning the third head-to-head match.
