Roger Federer vs Denis Shapovalov 3/29/19 Miami Open Tennis Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Swiss tennis master, Roger Federer has made it into the semifinals of the 2019 ATP Miami Open. At this stage of the tournament, Roger Federer will play against Denis Shapovalov from Canada.

Denis Shapovalov has had an incredible tournament and he showed his ability in the previous round as he beat Frances Tiafoe in 3 sets. It was a close match where Tiafoe won the opening set but Shapovalov fought back extremely strongly to win the final 2 sets. During the win, Shapovalov served extremely well as he hit 7 aces and won 73% of his service games. Shapovalov won 93% of his service games and 4 return games to set up the win.

On the other side of the coin, Roger Federer continued to show his class as he beat Kevin Anderson in straight sets. It was a dominant performance by Federer as he won the opening set 6-0 before winning the second set 6-4. Federer returned serve exceptionally well as he won 52% of this receiving points which allowed him to break Kevin Anderson’s serve on 5 occasions. Federer also served well as he won 88% of his service games. Federer is hugely experienced and accomplished as he has won this tournament 3 times in the past with the most recent being in 2017. Considering his record and current form, Roger Federer will be very tough to stop.

This will be the first time that Roger Federer and Denis Shapovalov will be playing each other at an ATP event.

Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Roger Federer to win this match. The young players like Denis Shapovalov have impressed in this tournament but Federer has seemed to be able to hold his zone against everyone and continue his fine form. Federer is the stronger and more skilled player and I see him winning this match and making another appearance at the final of the Miami Open.

Pick:
Roger Federer
