|Date & Time||Thursday November 1, 2018, 2:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: -- Over/Under:
Roger Federer will play Fabio Fognini in the third round of the 2018 ATP Paris Masters. Both Fabio Fognini and Roger Federer automatically made it through the second round after their opponents retired.
Roger Federer’s last match was at the 2018 Swiss Indoors where he won his 99th career ATP title. Federer was exceptional at the Swiss Indoors as he dominated most of his fixtures while also showing a fighting spirit during a tough match against Gilles Simon. The biggest asset for Federer during the Swiss Indoors was his ability to return serve as he averaged close to 4 breakpoints won per match. While Federer has done better at other events, the Swiss Master still has a strong record at the Paris Masters as he won this tournament 2011 while also making the semifinals twice.
Similar to Federer, Fabio Fognini will also be playing his first match of the tournament in the third round. Fognini has had an exceptional season as he has won 3 ATP events while also finishing second at the ATP Chengdu Open. Since the US Open, Fabio Fognini has a record of 9-5 meaning he is in very good form. That being said, this match will be very tough for the Italian as his opponent is world number 3, Roger Federer.
Roger Federer and Fabio Fognini have played 3 times in the past. As it currently stands, Roger Federer has a head-to-head record of 3-0 against Fognini. That being said, the last time these two played was at the Davis Cup in 2014 where Federer won in 3 sets.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Roger Federer to win this match. Federer is a much better player and he should be able to outclass Fabio Fognini. Having just won his 99th ATP title, I see Roger Federer getting closer to his 100th title by winning this match.
