In the third round of the 2020 Australian Open in Melbourne, Roger Federer is set to play against John Millman from Australia.

John Millman has looked in good touch and he enters this match having won his previous outing in straight sets. During the win, Millman impressed with his receiving as he won 44% of his return points which allowed him to break his opponent’s serve on 8 occasions. While the receiving was impressive, Millman struggled with his serve as he lost 5 service games. John Millman must improve his serve if he wishes to compete with Roger Federer.

On the other side of the coin, Roger Federer looked very comfortable as he won his previous match in straight sets. Federer has won both of his matches in straight sets and looks in dominant form. In the previous round, Federer defeated Filip Krajinović. It was a good performance by Federer as he won 7 return games and 92% of his service games. Things are looking strong for Roger Federer as he enters this match.

Roger Federer and John Millman have played each other 3 times in the last. Federer has won 2 prior head-to-head matches while Millman has won once. The most recent match between these two players was 2019 at the Halle Open where Roger Federer won in straight sets. John Millman defeated Roger Federer in 2018 at the US Open.

Taking everything into consideration, I am picking Roger Federer to win this match. Roger Federer is the stronger player and he should be extremely determined to produce a big performance considering Millman eliminated in the Swiss superstar at Flushing Meadows in 2018. I am expecting Roger Federer to produce a big performance and I see the Swiss superstar playing his best tennis considering the history between these two players. With that in mind, I see Roger Federer winning in straight sets.
