Roger Federer and Kevin Anderson meet in the round robin stages of the 2018 tennis ATP Finals.

Roger Federer is coming off a straight sets win over Dominic Thiem that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Federer won 86 percent of his first serve points and 81 percent of his second serve points. Federer won 84 percent of his total service points and didn’t face a single break point. It was a nice showing and a needed one for Federer, who really struggled in his opening match against Kei Nishikori and couldn’t stop making unforced errors. Federer looked much more like Federer in his last match and hasn’t been bounced in the round robin stages of the ATP Finals since 2008. Federer has won nine of his last 11 matches on indoor hard court.

Kevin Anderson is coming off a straight sets win over Kei Nishikori that took 13 games to decide. In the victory, Anderson won 82 percent of his first serve points and 63 percent of his second serve points. Anderson won 78 percent of his total service points and converted on five of his 12 break points. Anderson has yet to drop a set this tournament, nearly double bageled one of the hotter players in the tournament and hasn’t even faced a break point in his last four sets. Anderson should have everyone’s attention now when it comes to being a serious threat to win this tournament. Anderson has won 10 of his last 12 matches on indoor hard court.

These two have played five times and Federer has won four of those matches. The most recent meeting was in this years Wimbledon, a match Anderson won in five sets. Federer won the other four matches in straight sets, including three matches on hard court.

Anderson has given himself betting value with the way he’s serving right now, as I don’t think it will shock anyone if he wins this match. However, Federer hasn’t lost to Anderson on hard court and hasn’t lost in the round robin stages of this tournament in 10 years. In a big match with a lot on the line, I usually give the edge to Federer for obvious reasons.

It will be tight, but Federer wins.

Pick:
Roger Federer
