Roger Federer and Robin Haase meet Saturday in the semifinals of the 2017 Rogers Cup.

Roger Federer is coming off a straight sets win over Roberto Bautista Agut that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Federer won 81 percent of his first serve points and 72 percent of his second serve points. Federer has now won 10 of his last 11 sets played and is coming off a match in which he won 76 percent of his total serve points. It’s basically the same Federer, just a different tournament, as the guy has been lights out since winning the Australian Open. At a fresh 36 years old, it doesn’t feel like anybody can slow Federer down at this moment. Federer looks to make his sixth final appearance of the season and first since the Wimbledon. Federer has won five straight semifinal matches. Federer has won 15 straight matches on hard court.

Robin Haase is coming off a three sets win over Diego Sebastian Schwartzman that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Haase won 84 percent of his first serve points and 31 percent of his second serve points. Haase had to muscle his way through his last two matches and is coming off a match in which he won 46 percent of his return points. Haase hasn’t played the cleanest tennis in the world and could improve his second serve numbers, but he’s found ways to win and his return game has been key. Haase hopes to make his first final appearance of the season and first since last years Swiss Open. Haase has won six of his last eight semifinal matches when you include challenger play. Haase has won five of his last six matches on hard court.

These two played once in the past, which was in the 2012 Davis Cup, a match Federer won in three sets. The match took 27 games to decide. This will be the first match on hard court.

Those that have followed along recently know I haven’t picked against Federer during his run and don’t plan to anytime soon given his current form. Federer has played the best tennis of anyone for about a year now and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. With Haase’s weak second serve and dips in play, this is a match Federer should win in straight sets.

Federer makes another final.
