American tennis player, Sam Querrey and Jason Jung have both made the quarterfinals of the 2019 ATP New York Open.
Sam Querrey beat Radu Albot in the previous round in straight sets. During the win, Querrey impressed with his serving as he hit 17 aces and had a first serve percentage of 78%. Sam Querrey 78% of his service points which allowed him to win all of the games played during his serve. As far as his receiving was concerned, it was also a solid performance by Sam Querrey as he won 41% of his return points which allowed him to break Albot’s serve on 2 occasions. Querrey has an exceptional record at the New York Open as he finished 2nd at this event last season. With the conditions favourable and good form on his side, Sam Querrey will be tough to beat.
Jason Jung, on the other hand, caused a major upset in the previous round as he beat the number 2 seed, Frances Tiafoe in straight sets. It was a dominant performance by Jung as he won 91% of service games while winning 3 return games to set up a comfortable win. Jung is not a regular of the ATP scene and he lacks the experience of playing big ATP matches so that could be a disadvantage as he is playing a very accomplished opponent.
This will be the first time that Sam Querrey and Jason Jung will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Jason Jung has done extremely well to make it this far in the tournament but it will be very hard for him to make it any further. Sam Querrey is a very accomplished player and the American has been playing very well. Querrey has a strong record at the New York Open and with that in mind, I see him winning this match and making the semifinals of the tournament.
