Samantha Stosur and Caroline Garcia meet Thursday in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Strasbourg Open.

Samantha Stosur is coming off a straight sets victory over Su-Wei Hsieh that took 22 games to decide. Stosur hasn’t dropped a set this tournament and has now won 11 of her last 14 matches. Stosur has really found her consistency as of late and is quickly climbing up the rankings to the point she could be a top-20 player again if this run continues. Stosur is doing a great job with her return game and is hitting winners with confidence. Stosur isn’t getting any younger at 32, but she’s clearly playing some of her best tennis in years at this very moment. Stosur has won seven of her last eight quarterfinal appearances.

Caroline Garcia is coming off a straight sets win over Jil Belen Teichmann that took 22 games to decide. Garcia hasn’t dropped a set this tournament and has split her last eight singles matches. Garcia hasn’t had nearly the same success singles wise this season as she did last year. While struggling with her form, she’s been tearing things up in doubles with her partner Kristina Mladenovic, as they’ve won three titles this season already. However, singles, Garcia doesn’t look comfortable on the court and has had issues with her service game. Garcia has lost eight of her last 12 singles matches on clay court. Garcia has also won her last three quarterfinal appearances.

This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.

Stosur is playing great tennis right now and looking kind of like the top-10 player she was back in 2011. Garcia is the much younger and quicker player at this stage, but she’s tough to back given her current form.

I like Stosur to advance to the semifinals.
