Sadikovic vs. Serena
|Date & Time||Monday June 27, 2016, 9:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line -- Over/Under:
Serena Williams and Amra Sadikovic square off early in the first round of the 2016 Wimbledon.
Serena Williams will be well rested for this tournament after not playing since the French Open, and she’ll be double dipping with her sister Venus Williams. Serena has really dominated since her early exit in Miami, as her only loss came in the French Open final to Garbine Muguruza. Serena hasn’t played her best tennis in a while, but she continues to find ways to win and has shown her at 75 percent or so is still enough to beat most players. Serena should be motivated after losing in the final of her last two grand slam appearances. Serena hasn't lost in the first round of a grand slam since the 2012 French Open. Serena has won 15 of her last 17 matches on grass.
Amra Sadikovic didn’t lose a single set in three matches of qualifying and has now won seven of her last 11 matches overall. Sadikovic has been trying to find her form since returning from retirement last year and has been sniffing around the top-150, which is her best ranking of her career. Sadikovic has been very successful on the ITF level and did just reach a final in Kreuzlingen, so she should be feeling good about her play at the moment. However, this is easily the biggest match of Sadikovic’s career, so nerves may be there early and often. Sadikovic has never made it out of the first round of a grand slam. Sadikovic has won six of her last nine matches on grass.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
Serena should be healthier than she was in the French Open and has been beating much more talented players at far less than 100 percent. Sadikovic has nothing for the top player in the world. Serena will likely lose no more than two games in this match.
Serena in straight sets, easily.
