|Date & Time||Wednesday July 6, 2016, 9:00 PM (EDT)|
the Line -- Over/Under:
Serena Williams and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova meet in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Wimbledon.
Serena Williams is coming off a straight sets win over Svetlana Kuznetsova that took a little over an hour. In the victory, Serena won 28 of 38 first serve points and racked up 43 winners and 14 unforced errors. Serena has lost just eight games in her last two matches and has produced 68 winners during that span as well. Serena is hitting the ball extremely well and has played just two hours of tennis in her last two matches. In terms of winning another grand slam, Serena looks to be in great shape at the moment. Serena hopes to make her eighth straight grand slam semifinal. Serena has won 11 straight matches on grass.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is coming off a straight sets win over Coco Vandeweghe that took a little over an hour. In the victory, Pavlyuchenkova won 27 of 42 first serve points and racked up 13 winners and seven unforced errors. Pavlyuchenkova has lost no more than six games in each of her last three matches and has just 27 unforced errors in her last two matches. Pavlyuchenkova isn’t beating herself and is doing a great job of finishing her points quickly. Pavlyuchenkova has two victories over top-10 players since 2015 and the most recent coming in the 2015 Kremlin Cup against Lucie Šafářová. Pavlyuchenkova has a chance to make her first grand slam semifinal. Pavlyuchenkova has won five of her last eight matches on grass.
These two have played five times, and Serena has won all of those meetings, four of which in straight sets. The most recent match was in the 2015 Rome Masters. This will be the first match on grass.
As if the form wasn’t enough for you to side with Serena, just look at the head to head numbers. Pavlyuchenkova has been no match for Serena in their meetings and has been killed in pretty much every match.
Once again, give me Serena in straight sets.
