The Line: -- Over/Under:
American tennis superstar, Serena Williams has made it into the third round of the 2019 WTA Indian Wells Open where she will play against Garbine Muguruza from Spain. Both Williams and Muguruza have won Grand Slam titles in the past so we should be witnessing a match between two elite players.
Serena Williams enters this match having beaten Victoria Azarenka in the previous round. It was a dominant performance by Serena as she defeated a very accomplished play in straight sets. During the win, Serena Williams returned serve exceptionally well as she won 51% of her receiving points which allowed her to win 60% of her return games. Serena Williams had won the Indian Wells Open twice in the past which means that she should be feeling very comfortable about playing at this venue.
On the other side of the coin, Garbine Muguruza enters this match having won her previous outing in straight sets against Lauren Davis. It was an easy win for Muguruza as she only lost 4 games in the entire match. It was an all-round performance by the Spaniard as Muguruza won 100% of her service games and 50% of her return games to seal the victory comfortably. This will be a much tougher match for Garbine Muguruza as Serena is a much better player than Lauren Davis.
Serena Williams and Garbine Muguruza have played each other 5 times in the past with Serena winning on 3 occasions and Muguruza winning on 2 occasions. The most recent match between these two players was in 2016 at the Fed Cup where Garbine Muguruza won in straight sets. It is important to note that all of Muguruza’s wins over Serena have been on clay.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Serena Williams to win this match. Both players have looked good but Serena seems to be hitting the ball at her best and that makes it very tough for anyone to compete. Serena is playing on home soil so that should give her a further boost. With all that in mind, I see Serena Williams getting the victory.
