S. Williams -599 / K. Juvan +400
American tennis superstar, Serena Williams has made it into the second round at Wimbledon. At this stage of the tournament, Serena will play against Kaja Juvan from Slovenia.
Kaja Juvan enters this match having beaten Kristyna Pliskova in 3 sets in the previous match. It was a solid display by Juvan as she won 79% of her service games and 3 return games. While the result was positive for Kaja Juvan, she must improve her first serve percentage for this match. Juvan had a first serve percentage of only 67% and if she doesn’t improve that, she will struggle against Serena who has the power to exploit a slow second serve.
At the age of 18, this is the first time that Kaja Juvan is playing at Wimbledon. Juvan is a former junior’s champion at Wimbledon but this is an entirely different experience. Juvan must be at her best if she wishes to compete with Serena.
Looking at Serena Williams, the American was outstanding in her opening match. Serena served with power and received extremely well to complete a straight sets victory. The receiving was especially impressive as Serena won over 50% of her return points which allowed her to break her opponent’s serve on 5 occasions.
Serena Williams has won Wimbledon on 7 occasions. Last season Serena finished second at Wimbledon. The grass courts aid Serena as her power makes her very tough to play against.
Serena has not played since the French Open but the lack of court time does not seem to have an impact as she looked outstanding in the opening round.
This will be the first time that Serena Williams and Kaja Juvan will be playing each other at a WTA event.
Kaja Juvan has impressed many tennis fans after she showed great skill and composure in her opening round fixture. Juvan is seen as a future star but I don’t think she has the ability to compete with Serena. Serena Williams was outstanding in her opening round fixture and the American is looking in great touch. With form and experience on her side, I see Serena Williams winning this match and securing a spot in the third round.
