The Line: -- Over/Under:
Serena Williams and Karolina Pliskova meet in the semifinals of the 2016 US Open.
Serena Williams is coming off a three set win over Simona Halep that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Serena won 77 percent of her first serve points and 51 percent of her second serve points. Serena faced her hardest test yet in a grueling victory in which she racked up 41 unforced errors and struggled with her second serve. Still, Serena continues to show fight and finds ways to win even if she’s not at her best. Serena has won 20 of her last 23 sets played. Serena hopes to make her eighth grand slam final in her last nine tries. Serena has won 14 of her last 17 matches on hard court.
Karolina Pliskova is coming off a straight sets win over Ana Konjuh that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Pliskova won 92 percent of her first serve points and 77 percent of her second serve points. Pliskova took less than an hour to get the biggest victory of her career and will be very fresh for this contest. If Pliskova can continue to drop down aces and spray winners with her power, she’ll have a shot to pull off the upset and advance to the US Open final. Pliskova has 10 career wins over top-10 players, including five this season. Pliskova hopes to make her first career grand slam final. Pliskova has won 10 straight matches on hard court.
These two have met once in the past, which was in Stanford of 2014, a match Serena won in straight sets. The match took 20 games to decide.
Serena faced her biggest challenge in Halep, somebody who can cover ground and get the ball back in play. Pliskova can’t exactly do that. This is an easier match for Serena, as it almost plays into her hands with the constant power shots.
The American moves onto another grand slam final.
