Serena Williams and Kristina Mladenovic meet in the third round of the 2016 French Open.
Serena Williams is coming off a straight sets win over Teliana Pereira that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Serena won 88 percent of her first serve points and 50 percent of her second serve points. Serena has lost just five games this tournament and is winning 88 percent of her first serve points overall. Serena has also racked up just 22 unforced errors and 56 winners, numbers that make her even tougher to beat. In this current form the only person who can beat Serena is herself, something she hasn’t done since the Miami against Svetlana Kuznetsova. Serena hopes to reach the fourth round of a grand slam for the seventh straight time.
Kristina Mladenovic is coming off a straight sets win over Timea Babos that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Mladenovic won 67 percent of her first serve points and 62 percent of her second serve points. Mladenovic has won both of her matches in straight sets and a lot of it has to do with her impressive service game as she’s winning more than 60 percent on both first and second serves. Mladenovic is putting a lot of pressure on her opponents and is averaging 22 winners per match. Mladenovic has five career victories over top-10 players, including two last season. Mladenovic hopes to reach her second fourth round of a grand slam and first since last year's US Open.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
Mladenovic is playing well as of late and has proven she’s a top-30 player in the world. But we all know beating or even competing with Serena in this form is a different kind of ballgame. Mladenovic may be able to keep it close for one set, but Serena should still probably win in straight sets.
Serena moves onto the fourth round.
