Serena Williams and Kristina Mladenovic meet in the third round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.
Serena Williams is coming off a straight sets win over Viktoriya Tomova that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Serena won 84 percent of her first serve points and 56 percent of her second serve points. Serena won 74 percent of her total service points and saved her only break point. The second round victory was easily one of Serena’s most complete performances since her return, and the confidence is building rather quickly. While she still needs more reps under her belt, it’s safe to say Serena has a good chance to win this grand slam given her recent play. Serena hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for a 12th straight appearance. Serena has lost before the fourth round of the Wimbledon just once just 2006. Serena has won 16 straight matches on grass court.
Kristina Mladenovic is coming off a straight sets win over Tatjana Maria that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Mladenovic won 79 percent of her first serve points and 61 percent of her second serve points. Mladenovic won 72 percent of her total service points and didn’t face a single break point in her second round victory. Mladenovic has been serving very well as of late and has given herself a combined 24 break points in her last two matches. If Mladenovic can have similar success with her return in this match, she’ll give herself a chance to earn one of the biggest victories of her career. Mladenovic has a chance to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the third time in her career. Mladenovic has never made the fourth round of the Wimbledon. Mladenovic has won four of her last six matches on grass court.
These two have played once, which was in the 2016 French Open, a match Serena won in straight sets. The match took 23 games to be decided.
Mladenovic is playing well enough to make this a match and make the over worth a look. In terms of who wins, however, you can’t bet against Serena. She’s getting better each time she takes the court and is only going to improve her second serve with more reps. Not to mention Mladenovic usually folds in grand slam play around this time.
Serena makes her 12th straight grand slam fourth round appearance.
