Serena Williams and Vitalia Diatchenko meet in the first round of the 2015 US Open.

Serena Williams heads into the US Open with a ton of pressure, as she looks to complete a calendar grand slam for the first time in her career. Serena has won the last four grand slams, but winning this tournament would be sweeping all four in one season. Serena has won eight of her last nine matches and just won the Cincinnati Masters with a straight sets victory over Simona Halep. While Serena is getting the job done, she hasn’t been at her peak lately and has struggled with her service game. Serena is clearly feeling the pressure of making history and it has impacted her game at times. Still, Serena is the clear favorite for a reason and will be tough to beat. Serena has not lost in the first round of a grand slam since the 2012 French Open.

Vitalia Diatchenko will have a shot at by far the biggest win of her young career at 25 years old. Diatchenko has lost her last three singles matches but has experienced some decent success this season that shouldn’t go unnoticed. Diatchenko was runner-up at both the Hobart International and Baku Cup this year, and she also won this year’s Aegon Surbiton Trophy. Still, this is by far the biggest match of Diatchenko’s career, and she doesn’t have a lot of grand slam experience with this being just her seventh appearance. Diatchenko has made it out of the first round of a major just twice in her career, both which came in the French Open.

This match will be the first time these two have played.

Even with Serena nervous and playing tense lately, this should result in easy work and a straight sets victory.
