Serena Williams has made it into the third round of the 2019 WTA Miami Open. Serena will now face Wang Qiang from China.

Serena Williams has not been at her best this season as she lost at the quarterfinals in the Australian Open and failed to make it past the third round at the Indian Wells Open. It was a tough second round match for Serena Williams as she lost the second set to Rebecca Peterson. Fortunately for Serena, her class prevailed in the final set which she won 6-1 to take the match win. This match is expected to be a test to Serena Williams as she is playing a very talented opponent in Wang Qiang.

Wang Qiang won her previous match with ease as she defeated the 2017 Miami Open champion, Johanna Konta, in straight sets. It was a dominant performance by Wang as she only lost 4 games in the entire match. During the win, Wang won 88% of her service games and 63% of her return games. Leading up to this tournament, Wang made a deep run at the Indian Wells Open and Challenger event at Indian Wells. Playing against Serena Williams is never an easy task but considering the situation, Wang Qiang will be confident that she can trouble the American tennis legend.

This will be the first time that Serena Williams and Wang Qiang will be playing each other at a WTA event.

Taking everything into consideration, I am going to predict this match to be an upset and Wang Qiang to win. At her best, Serena is impossible to beat but she has not been at her best this season. Wang is confident after her recent result and she looks to be playing better tennis when compared to Serena. With all that in mind, I see Wang Qiang winning this match and making the fourth round of the tournament.
