The Line: -- Over/Under:
Serena Williams and Yaroslava Shvedova meet in the fourth round of the 2016 US Open.
Serena Williams is coming off a straight sets win over Johanna Larsson that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Serena won 82 percent of her first serve points and 68 percent of her second serve points. Serena has yet to drop a set this tournament and has lost just 15 games overall in her first three matches. There were concerns about Serena and her shoulder heading into the tournament, but it’s safe to say she looks healthy and has a great shot at her seventh US Open title. Serena hopes to make her ninth straight grand slam quarterfinal. Serena has won seven of her last nine matches on hard court.
Yaroslava Shvedova is coming off a straight sets win over Shuai Zhang that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Shvedova won 77 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Shvedova has also not dropped a set this tournament and has lost just 13 games in her first three matches. However, while she’s looked sharp and hasn’t played any taxing matches in singles, she’s also playing doubles and mixed doubles, so fatigue may be an issue this far in the tournament. Shvedova hopes to make her fourth career grand slam quarterfinal. Shvedova has split her last six matches on hard court.
These two have met four times in the past and Serena has won all four meetings, three in straight sets. The last match was in the 2014 Miami Masters, a match that took 21 games. This will be the fourth match on hard court.
As if Serena wasn’t the overwhelming favorite to win this match, you look at the head to head and notice Shvedova is really going to struggle. This should be a rather quick match for the American.
Give me Serena in straight sets.
