|Date & Time||Thursday June 6, 2019, 6:00 AM (EDT)|
S. Halep -500 / A. Anisimova +350
Defending French Open champion, Simona Halep has made it into the quarterfinal of the 2019 tournament. Simona Halep will now play against Amanda Anisimova from the United States.
Amanda Anisimova has had an outstanding tournament as she has already defeated the likes of Aryna Sabalenka. In the previous round, Anisimova played against Aliona Bolsova from Spain. It was a dominating win for Anisimova as she won the match in straight sets while only losing 4 games. During the win, Amanda Anisimova served exceptionally well as she won 63% of her service points which led her to win all of her service games. In addition to that, Anisimova also managed to win 4 return games which was vital in her securing a comfortable win. Amanda Anisimova is a very talented player but at the age of 17, she may lack the experience required to win a big match against a player like Simona Halep.
On the other side of the coin, Simona Halep has also been looking very solid throughout the tournament. Halep had a very easy win in the previous round as she only lost 1 game in the entire match. It was a supreme display by Halep as she won all of her return games. Halep won 71% of the points played in the match and sealed the win in quick time. It has been a strong few months for Halep prior to the French Open as she made the semifinals of the Miami Masters and the final of the Madrid Masters. Halep is very accomplished and her record in exceptional at Roland Garros as she won the title 12 months ago. WIth form and location in her favour, Simona Halep will be very tough to beat.
This will be the first time that Simona Halep and Amanda Anisimova will be playing each other at a WTA event.
Amanda Anisimova has been outstanding throughout this tournament and the American will feel that she has a good chance of winning this match. That being said, I am going to side with Simona Halep. Simona Halep is the stronger player and she has the experience needed to win big games. Halep looks in outstanding touch and I see her winning that match.
