Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber square off in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Wimbledon.

Simona Halep is coming off a three set win over Madison Keys that took almost two hours. In the victory, Halep won 53 of 78 first serve points and racked up 13 winners and 10 unforced errors. Halep has dropped just one set this tournament and did a great job of bouncing back after losing a first set tiebreak. Halep has just 35 unforced errors in her last three matches and is looking more and more like the former No. 2 player in the world after struggling at times earlier in the season. Halep hopes to make her fourth career grand slam semifinal. Halep has won six of her last eight matches on grass.

Angelique Kerber is coming off a straight sets win over Misaki Doi that took an hour to finish. In the victory, Kerber won 22 of 34 first serve points and racked up 17 winners and nine unforced errors. Kerber has yet to drop a set this tournament and is coming off  a match in which she lost just four games total. Kerber is playing flawless tennis at the moment and has had single digit unforced errors in three of her four matches. If Kerber can continue to limit her mistakes, she has a shot to be a darkhorse champion like she was in this year's Australian Open. Kerber hopes to make her fourth grand slam semifinal appearance. Kerber has won six of last seven matches on grass.

These two have played four times in the past and Halep has won three of those meetings. The most recent match came in this year's Romania vs. Germany, a match Kerber won in straight sets. This will be the first time these two play on grass.

This should be a fun match considering they both have similar games and are very athletic. However, Halep is the better player overall and has the head to head advantage, which has to count for something.

This match could go three sets, but I like Halep to muscle her way through it.

Pick:
Simona Halep
