Simona Halep and Marie Bouzkova meet in the quarterfinals of the 2019 tennis Rogers Cup.
Simona Halep is coming off a straight sets win over Svetlana Kuznetsova that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Halep won 70 percent of her first serve points and 54 percent of her second serve points. Halep won 66 percent of her total service points and converted on four of her 10 break points. Halep got 75 percent of her first serves in play and saved both of her break points. Halep served much better than she did in her opening match and has to love her chances to repeat if she can duplicate such a performance. Halep has now won each of her last nine matches and 10 of her last 13 victories have been decided in straight sets. Halep has won six of her last seven matches on hard court.
Marie Bouzkova is coming off a straight sets win over Jelena Ostapenko that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Bouzkova won 77 percent of her first serve points and 52 percent of her second serve points. Bouzkova won 64 percent of her total service points and converted on four of her seven break points. Bouzkova got 51 percent of her first serves in play, saved all four break points and hit two aces. Bouzkova has won all six sets to get to this point and has pretty much dominated her way here, producing a combined 15 breaks. Bouzkova has one career win over a top-10 player, which came in this tournament against Sloane Stephens. Bouzkova has won her last five matches on hard court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
Bouzkova has beaten some solid competition to get here, and a lot of her recent matches haven’t even been competitive. Bouzkova is playing well enough to where she probably believes she can pull off the upset here. With that said, Halep usually takes care of business in matches she’s clearly supposed to win, and she’s taken her game to another level since losing the No. 1 ranking.
I’ll take Halep in straight sets.
