Romanian tennis superstar, Simona Halep has reached the final 16 stage of the 2019 WTA Indian Wells Open. Halep will now face Markéta Vondroušová from the Czech Republic.

Markéta Vondroušová won her previous match in 3 sets after she beat the number 22 seed. It was a good win but Markéta Vondroušová as she fought back after losing the opening sets. During the win, Vondroušová impressed with her returning 52% of her receiving points which allowed her to break her opponents serve on 8 occasions. While the returning was impressive, Markéta Vondroušová had a very poor serving match. During the match, Vondroušová only won 54% of her service points which allowed her opponent to win 6 break points. Markéta Vondroušová will have to improve her serve if she wishes to compete with Simona Halep.
Simona Halep won her previous match with ease. It was a casual win for Halep as she won the opening set via a tiebreaker and won the second set 7-5. Simona Halep has looked very strong all tournament and she is yet to lose a set since arriving at Indian Wells. Leading up the Indian Wells Masters, Halep finished second at the WTA Qatar Open which shows that she is playing good tennis at the moment.

This will be the first time that Simona Halep and Markéta Vondroušová will be playing each other at a WTA event.

Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Simona Halep to win this match. While Markéta Vondroušová has shown great fight in this tournament, I see this match being too much for her. Simona Halep is a very strong player and she is playing exceptionally well at the moment. With that in mind, I see Simona Halep making it into the quarterfinals of the 2019 WTA Indian Wells Open.
