Simona Halep and Timea Babos meet in the third round of the 2016 US Open.

Simona Halep is coming off a straight sets win over Lucie Safarova that took 19 games to decide. Halep continues to play impressive tennis by winning her first two matches in straight sets and losing just nine games during the process. Halep did have issues with her serve in the round two match, but she was aggressive with her return and was solid on the defensive end. Halep has shown to be one of the stronger players on the womens side as of late. Halep hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the fourth time in five tries. Halep has won 10 of her last 11 matches on hard court.

Timea Babos is coming off a straight sets win over Richel Hogenkamp that took 18 games to decide. Babos has had an easy path to get to this point after playing two players ranked outside of the top-100, and she’s made the most of it by winning her last four sets. Babos has had her breakout season this year and is ranked inside the top-40, and she now has a shot at the biggest victory of her career at 23 years old. A fast start is needed for Babos, as Halep can really suck the life out of a match in her current form. Babos has never made the fourth round of a grand slam. Babos has won seven of her last eight matches on hard court.

These two have played twice and Halep has won both meetings in straight sets. The meetings took place in the 2015 Guangzhou Open and 2013 Budapest Open.

You can count on one hand how many women can beat Halep in her current form. Babos isn’t one of them and the history between these two has shown just that.

Halep wins this match again in straight sets.
