Sloane Stephens vs. Barbora Strycova 2015 Wimbledon Tennis Pick, Odds, Prediction

Sloane Stephens and Barbora Strycova meet in the first round of the 2015 Wimbledon.

Sloane Stephens enters this tournament in solid form, as she made the fourth round of the French Open and then the semifinals of the Aegon International. Stephens has won seven of her last nine matches overall, which includes wins over Venus Williams and three set matches against Serena Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska. Of course, reaching her full potential and consistency have been an ongoing issue with the 22-year-old. Stephens is always a threat when in rare form, but it’s a matter of staying in that zone. Stephens has been bounced in the first round of a major in two of her last four appearances, including last year’s Wimbledon. This is Stephen’s fourth straight Wimbledon appearance.

Barbora Strycova has put up with many early exits in recent tournaments, which includes the round of 32 in the Aegon International and first round on the French Open. The one thing keeping Strycova’s spirits up is the success she’s having in doubles with her partner Michaella Krajicek. Other than that, Strycova has lost five of her last eight singles matches. Strycova has been making a lot of unforced errors as of late and simply isn’t hitting her spots. Overall, it’s been a tough singles season for Strycova. Strycova has been eliminated in the first round of two her last five major appearances, but she did reach the quarterfinals of last year’s Wimbledon. Strycova has been bounced in the first round of the WImbledon five times.

This will be the first time these two have played one another.

I’ve been high on Stephens from the beginning, as I think she has the talent to be one of the stars on the women’s side at some point. Strycova has been far too poor to back right now. I expect the American to get the job done here.

Sloane Stephens -160
