Sloane Stephens and Darya Kasatkina meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tennis French Open.

Sloane Stephens is coming off a straight sets win over Anett Kontaveit that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Stephens won 75 percent of her first serve points and 80 percent of her second serve points. Stephens was simply lights out in her fourth round victory, winning 76 percent of her total service points and 56 percent of her return points. Stephens has been in such a zone this tournament that she hasn’t even faced a break point in three of her four matches. When the American is hitting the ball with this much confidence and keeping the ball in play, she’s a handful to deal with. Stephens has won seven of her last eight quarterfinal matches overall. Stephens hopes to make her third career grand slam semifinal appearance and first ever in the French Open. Stephens has won six of her last eight matches on clay court.

Darya Kasatkina is coming off a straight sets win over Caroline Wozniacki that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Kasatkina won 65 percent of her first serve points and 29 percent of her second serve points. Kasatkina was able to win her match despite 35 unforced errors and getting nothing on her second serve. Kasatkina is enjoying her breakout grand slam performance and is in rather great form at the moment winning 13 of her last 16 sets played. Kasatkina can certainly be much better with her service game, but she’s hitting a great deal of winners and has been able to control most points by hitting through her opponent. Kasatkina hopes to make her first ever grand slam semifinal appearance. Kasatkina has won five straight matches on clay court.

There’s no previous matches between these two players.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Kasatkina handles the odd scheduling of playing three days in a row due to the Wozniacki being postponed halfway through. It gives Stephens a big advantage rest wise. Also, Stephens has been the much more consistent player up to this point and usually shines when getting to play an opponent who can hit big with her. Not to mention there’s a heavy experience advantage for the American in terms of grand slam success, which usually comes into play at this point in the tournament.

Give me Stephens to reach the semis.
