Sloane Stephens vs Ons Jabeur - 3/22/19 WTA Tour - Miami Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

American tennis superstar, Sloane Stephens will begin her 2019 WTA Miami Open campaign in the second round against Ons Jabeur from Tunisia.

This is a big tournament for Sloane Stephens as she is a Florida native and she will be desperate to perform at this event. It has been a tough start to the 2019 season for Sloane Stephens as she has only won 5 matches in the entire season. Stephens has a disappointing Indian Wells Open as she was eliminated in the opening round and the American will be desperate to turn her form around. Sloane Stephens record at the Miami Open is exceptional and she enters this tournament as the reigning champion after she won the title last season. While Stephens has not been in great form, returning to her home tournament should give her a boost.

On the other side of the coin, Ons Jabeur enters this match having won her previous match in 3 sets. It was a tough win for Jabeur after she lost the opening set but the Tunisian fought hard and managed to win the final 2 sets and the match. Similar to her opponent, Ons Jabeur has not had a very good 2019 season as she has only won 4 matches this season. This will be a very tough match for Jabeur as she will be playing Stephens in her home venue.

Sloane Stephens and Ons Jabeur have played once in the past where Jabeur upset Stephens. That match was last season at the Kremlin Cup where Ons Jabeur won in straight sets.

Taking everything into notice, I am picking Sloane Stephens to win this match. Stephens is the stronger player and she should be confident as she enters this match considering her record at Miami. The fans will behind Sloane Stephens and I see her winning this match and making the third round of her home tournament.

Pick:
Sloane Stephens
