The Line: -- Over/Under:
Swiss tennis superstar, Stan Wawrinka has made it into the second round of the 2019 ATP Madrid Masters where he will play against Guido Pella from Argentina.
Guido Pella caused a massive upset in the previous round as he defeated Barcelona Open runners-up, Daniil Medvedev. It was a close contest but Pella held his nerve to win the match in 3 sets. During the win, Guido Pella served exceptionally well as the Argentine won 64% of his service points. Pella won 83% of his service games and 3 break points to beat a very accomplished opponent. It has been a strong clay-court season for Pella as he has made the quarterfinal of every tournament he has played since the Miami Masters.
On the other side of the coin, Stan Wawrinka had a simple win in the opening round as he won in straight sets. Wawrinka served very strongly as the Swiss superstar won 80% of his service points. Wawrinka won all of his service games which is a very impressive accomplishment of clay. In addition to having a strong serve, Wawrinka broke his opponent’s serve of 3 occasions to set up a comfortable win. Wawrinka made the final of Madrid Masters in 2013. Other than the 2013 tournament, Wawrinka has not been very strong at Madrid as he has a win rate of only 54% at this tournament.
This will be the first time that Stan Wawrinka and Guido Pella will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Stan Wawrinka is a very accomplished player but I see the Swiss superstar losing this match. Guido Pella has been very strong on clay this season having won the Brazil Open in March. Pella looked very impressive in his win over Medvedev and I see the Argentine continuing his winning ways by beating Wawrinka.
