The Line: -- Over/Under:
Stefanos Tsitsipas and David Goffin meet in the semifinals of the 2019 tennis Open 13.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is coming off a straight sets win over Sergiy Stakhovsky that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Tsitsipas won 84 percent of his first serve points and 67 percent of his second serve points. Tsitsipas won 77 percent of his total service points and didn’t face a single break point in a victory that took a little over an hour to complete. Tsitsipas has won both of his matches this tournament in straight sets and hasn’t faced a break point in either performance. While the competition hasn’t been the best, this is easily the best Tsitsipas has played since his semifinal trip in the Australian Open. Tsitsipas hopes to make his first final appearance since last years Stockholm Open and the fourth final appearance of his career. Tsitsipas has split his last six matches on indoor hard court.
David Goffin is coming off a straight sets win over Gilles Simon that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Goffin won 78 percent of his first serve points and 61 percent of his second serve points. Goffin won 72 percent of his total service points and converted on three of his 10 break points. Goffin has been broken just once this tournament and seven of his last 10 victories have been decided in straight sets. Goffin has won all four sets this tournament and looks like a different player who entered this event on a three-match losing streak. Goffin now hopes to win three matches in a single tournament for the first time since last years US Open. Goffin hopes to make his first final appearance since the 2017 ATP Finals and the 12th final appearance of his career. Goffin has split his last four matches on indoor hard court.
These two have split the previous four meetings, with Goffin winning this most recent match last year in Cincinnati. Tsitsipas is 2-1 against Goffin on hard court and each of the last three meetings were decided in straight sets.
Goffin has looked sharp his last two victories, but he’s still a player who has had a lot of hiccups these last few months, and that makes him hard to trust against top tier competition. Tsitsipas seems to have gotten back on track and is serving at a high level again, the thing that made him impossible to beat toward the end of last year. Tsitsipas has also beat Goffin in two of the three matches on hard court.
Tsitsipas makes his fourth career final appearance.
