Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jan-Lennard Struff meet in the third round of the 2019 tennis Barcelona.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is coming off a straight sets win over Marton Fucsovics that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Tsitsipas won 79 percent of his first serve points and 52 percent of his second serve points. Tsitsipas won 66 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his five break points. Tsitsipas can still improve his serve a bit and clean up a few unforced errors, but he looked solid for the most part in his opening victory. Tsitsipas hopes to wi nat least two matches for the fourth time in his last six tournaments. Tsitsipas has split his last six matches on clay court.

Jan-Lennard Struff is coming off a straight sets win over David Goffin that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Struff won 69 percent of his first serve points and 51 percent of his second serve points. Struff won 61 percent of his total service points and converted on three of his seven break points. Struff was very aggressive with his return and broke back the very next games after being broken. Struff has a chance to win three straight matches for the first time since Indian Wells. Struff has three career wins over top-10 players, but he’s never beaten two in the same year. Struff has won six of his last eight matches on clay court.

These two have played twice and Tsitsipas won both matches in straight sets. The matches took place this year in Sofia and a 2017 challenger match. One match was on hard court and the other was on clay.

Struff has proven himself on clay court over the years and has quietly won six of his last nine matches, so this won’t be an easy match for the top-10 player in the world. The problem is Struff has very little career success in moments like this and often crumbles when having a chance to take his game to the next level. Tsitsipas has improved his consistency and usually seems to get the job done in matches he should win.

Tsitsipas advances to the quarterfinals.
