Greek tennis player, Stefanos Tsitsipas will take part at the 2020 Australian Open in Melbourne. Tsitsipas will begin his tournament against Salvatore Caruso from Italy.
Salvatore Caruso enters this tournament having last played at the Adelaide International. It was a modest tournament for Caruso as he qualified through the qualifiers but was eliminated in the opening round. Salvatore Caruso was defeated by Jan-Lennard Struff in Adelaide. This will be the second time that Salvatore Caruso will be playing at the Australian Open having played in 2018. Caruso was eliminated in the opening round in 2018. This is expected to be a tough match for Salvatore Caruso as he is playing against the number 6 seed.
On the other side of the coin, Stefanos Tsitsipas last played at the ATP Cup. It was a poor tournament for Tsitsipas as he finished the tournament with a record of 1-2. Team Greece were eliminated during the group stage. Despite that result, Stefanos Tsitsipas will still play with confidence as he had an extremely strong end to 2019. Stefanos Tsitsipas won the ATP Finals where he defeated elite players like Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev. Stefanos Tsitsipas played extremely well at the 2019 Australian Open as he made the semifinals. Considering his record at this event and his recent form, Stefanos Tsitsipas will be tough to defeat.
This will be the first time that Salvatore Caruso and Stefanos Tsitsipas will be playing each other at an ATP tournament.
Salvatore Caruso is a very exciting player but I don’t see him playing at the level required to compete with Stefanos Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas has established himself as an elite player and I see him challenging for the Australian Open title. This should be an easy match for Stefanos Tsitsipas and he should win this match in straight sets.
