Colombian tennis player, Daniel Galan has made it into the second round of the 2019 ATP Houston Open. At this stage of the tournament, Galan will be playing against the top seed, Steve Johnson from the United States.
Daniel Galan had a solid win in the previous round as he won his first round match in straight sets against Paolo Lorenzi. It was a dominant display by Galan as he served exceptionally well throughout the match. Daniel Galan won 74% of his service points which allowed him to win 91% of his service games. It was a solid opening round win for Daniel Galan but the Colombian will know that this will be a much tougher match since he is playing against the top seed.
On the other side of the coin, Steve Johnson received an opening round bye due to his high seeding. It has been a decent few months for Steve Johnson as he made a deep run at the Delray Beach Open. Johnson failed to perform at the level he would have desired at the Miami Open and Indian Wells Open but the American will hope that his form returns at this venue. It is expected that Steve Johnson will have the support of the crowd since he is playing in his home country.
This will be the first time that Daniel Galan and Steve Johnson will be playing each other.
Daniel Galan looked impressive in his opening round win but I see him losing this match. Steve Johnson is a much more accomplished player and the American has the advantage of playing in his home country. Johnson has looked rusty over the past few weeks but with some decent court time at his previous tournaments, I see the American being close to his best in this match as he takes the win.
