Su-Wei Hsieh and Karolina Pliskova meet in the quarterfinals of the 2019 tennis Dubai.

Su-Wei Hsieh is coming off a three sets win over Angelique Kerber that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Hsieh won 66 percent of her first serve points and 43 percent of her second serve points. Hsieh won 58 percent of her total service points and converted on seven of her 14 break points. Hsieh won the last eight games to close the match out and has produced a combined 15 breaks in her first three matches. Hsieh has become that sneaky good player who cannot be overlooked, and with wins over top-15 players in two of her last three matches, she’s put herself in the running for a title. As long as that return holds up, Hsieh is a threat to anyone in the remaining field. Hsieh has won six of her last nine matches on outdoor hard court.

Karolina Pliskova is coming off a straight sets win over Alison Riske that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Pliskova won 65 percent of her first serve points and 56 percent of her second serve points. Pliskova won 62 percent of her total services lints and converted on two of her 10 break points. Pliskova has found her serve again this tournament where she’s combined for 23 aces in her last five sets. Pliskova wasn’t getting as many free points with her serve during her Australian Open run, so she has to be happy with where her game is at currently, as everything falls into place when she’s hitting her spots with her first serve. Pliskova has now won 25 of her last 33 matches overall. Pliskova has won 12 of her last 13 matches on outdoor hard court.

These two have played once, which was in the 2018 Miami Open, a match Pliskova won in three sets. The match took 30 games to be decided.

Hsieh clearly can’t be overlooked in this match given what she’s done up to this point and the fact her return game has been so sharp. The problem is Pliskova has found her serve again and has the power to hit through the crafty Hsieh. When Pliskova is hitting her spots and spraying winners with consistency, that’s not much most players on tour can do, as she’s great at taking the racket out of her opponents hand.

Pliskova rolls to the semifinals.
