Taro Daniel and Roberto Bautista Agut meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tennis Swiss Open.
Taro Daniel is coming off a three sets win over Roberto Carballes Baena that took 33 games to decide. In the victory, Daniel won 74 percent of his first serve points and 51 percent of his second serve points. Daniel won 64 percent of his service points and produced seven breaks in his impressive three sets victory. Daniel has played his best tennis this season on clay, and this has a chance to be one of his more successful tournaments of the year when it comes to the main tour. As long as Daniel can do a bette job of holding serve and not give his opponent so many break points, he gives himself a shot at one of the bigger semifinal appearances of his career. Daniel has won six of his last eight matches on clay court.
Roberto Bautista Agut is coming off a straight sets win over Jaume Munar that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Bautista Agut won 73 percent of his first serve points and 50 percent of his second serve points. Bautista Agut won 65 percent of his total service points and produced three breaks on seven chances. Bautista Agut got off to a slow start in the first set, but he lost a combined five games in the last two sets to get a much needed victory. Form and health was a question for Bautista Agut, who had to retire in the semifinals of Halle after taking fall. As long as Bautista Agut is healthy and isn’t dealing with any nagging issues that forced him to step away from his last tournament, he’s a real threat to win this title. Bautista Agut has won four of his last six matches on clay court.
This will be the first ever match between these two players.
Bautista Agut is going to win this match, as he’s far more comfortable on clay, and Daniel is coming off a match in which he got nothing on his serve. You can’t get broken five or six times and expect to beat a quality player deep in a tournament. Against a top-20 player in Bautista Agut, he’s going to have a field day with the return and win a ton of easy points.
Bautista Agut cruises in straight sets.
