The German Open has reached the second round with Fernando Verdasco in action against Thiago Monteiro from Brazil. Both players have been hitting the ball well in recent weeks and will feel that they can win this match. This should ensure that we get a great contest.
Fernando Verdasco has had a few good weeks since his disappointing Wimbledon as he managed to make the semi-finals at the ATP Swedish Open. The Spanish superstar has been hitting the ball very cleanly and that has ensured that he has managed to dominate all the games that he has been playing. This was shown once again as he beat Serbian tennis player, Dušan Lajović, in the opening round of this tournament. If he can continue to hit the ball cleanly he should be able to cause lots of trouble to his opponent in this fixture.
As far as Thiago Monteiro is concerned, he will need to ensure that Fernando Verdasco is running around. If the Brazilian can tire Verdasco then he can capitalize. That being said, Thiago Monteiro has also been hitting the ball very well as he managed to beat Gilles Simon in the opening round. The match against Simon showed the quality of the Brazilian player as he dominated the game and eliminated a 13 time ATP title winner in straight sets. This has been a dream run for the Brazilian as he made it into this tournament as a qualifier and if he can beat Verdasco, his dream will only get closer to reality.
All in all, I am going to pick Fernando Verdasco to win. The Spaniard is looking in good form and when a player with as much experience as Verdasco is playing well, he normally wins. This will be a tough match for Thiago Monteiro and I think he will lose quite easily.
