Tomas Berdych vs. Ivo Karlovic 2015 Gerry Weber Open Tennis Pick, Odds, Prediction

Tomas Berdych and Ivo Karlovic meet Friday in the quarterfinals in the 2015 Gerry Weber Open.

Tomas Berdych is coming off a straight sets victory over Coric Borna, as he has yet to drop a set in this tournament. Berdych is hitting his shots as usual and is coming off a match that took just 17 games to decide. Fatigue can be an issue at times for Berdych, so it’s key that continues to get these matches done in a timely manner if he’s going to win this title. Berdych is certainly picking up his consistency this season, as he’s now won seven of his last nine singles matches. The concern with Berdych are the unforced errors, as he can be sloppy at times when not focused. Berdych looks to win his first Gerry Weber Open title since 2007.

Ivo Karlovic is coming off a three-set victory against Alexander Zverev, a match that took 31 games to be decided. Karlovic has played six sets in this tournament and will have to take his game to another level if he’s going to pull off the upset. The good thing is that Karlovic has shown great fight early on, as he’s come back despite dropping the first set in both of his first two matches. Fatigue has to be an issue for Karlovic, as well as the fact he’s struggled against lesser players already this tournament. Still, Karlovic could really use a big win here to turn things around, as he’s split his last eight matches. Karlovic looks for his first singles title since Bogota in 2013.

These two have played each other seven times, and Karlovic has won four of those meetings. Berdych has won their most recent meeting in the 2014 Shanghai Masters and Karlovic has won three of the last five meetings. This will be the first time the two have faced each other on grass.

Karlovic is just not in good form right now and his struggles early on in this tournament show just that. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Berdych win this match in straight sets.
