Sevastova vs. Azarenka

The Line: -- Over/Under:
Victoria Azarenka and Anastasija Sevastova meet in the third round of the tennis 2018 Miami Open.
Victoria Azarenka is coming off a straight sets win over Madison Keys that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Azarenka won 72 percent of her first serve points and 28 percent of her second serve points. Azarenka beat a very good player in a first set tiebreak and then won the match after Keys retired early in the second set. Azarenka can certainly be better with her second serve, but overall, she was solid on her return and looked good for somebody who has very little tennis under her belt the last two years. And while she’s getting play in, Azarenka should also be well conditioned for this match considering neither of her first two matches have been tiring. This has been an impressive showing for the 28-year-old Azarenka up to this point. Azarenka has won 12 of her last 13 matches on hard court.
Anastasija Sevastova is coming off a straight sets win over Alize Cornet that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Sevastova won 61 percent of her first serve points and 61 percent of her second serve points. Sevastova did a good job with her serve overall, but she was broken four times and only got 58 percent of her first serve in play. Those numbers certainly have to improve if she hopes to make a deeper tournament run. Sevastova did win 51 percent of her return points in her first match, and her return has been key in pretty much every match she’s won this season. Sevastova has the chance to reach the fourth round of a WTA Premier Mandatory Tournament for just the third time in her career. Sevastova has split her last six matches on hard court.
This will be their first meeting on the tennis court.
We know the story with Azarenka and you have to question if she’s capable of making a deep tournament against stiff competition so quickly, but she’s looked great in limited action. Sevastova has been shaky to say the least this season and wasn’t mind-blowing in her last match, as she was broken four times. This is a match that should favor Azarenka as long as she has her conditioning under control and is feeling up for a battle.
I like Azarenka to reach the fourth round.
