Victoria Azarenka and Donna Vekic meet in the second round of the 2019 tennis Silicon Valley Classic.

Victoria Azarenka is coming off a straight sets win over Harmony Tan that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Azarenka won 50 percent of her first serve points and 58 percent of her second serve points. Azarenka won 54 percent of her total service points and converted on seven of her 12 break points. Azarenka got 50 percent of her first serves in play and saved three of her four break points. Azarenka could still be sharper with her serve, but she’s slowly finding that consistency and stringing wins together. Azarenka looks to win back-to-back matches for the fourth time in her last seven tournaments. Azarenka has won four of her last five matches on hard court.

Donna Vekic is coming off a three sets win over Misaki Doi that took 29 games to decide. In the victory, Vekic won 76 percent of her first serve points and 34 percent of her second serve points. Vekic won 54 percent of her total service points and converted on seven of her 19 break points. Vekic got 46 percent of her first serves in play and saved three of her nine break points. Vekic has to be better with her serve if she’s going to have any chance of winning this match. Vekic looks to win back-to-back matches for the first time since Nottingham. Vekic has split her last six matches on hard court.

There’s no match history between these two players.

Vekic could have easily lost her last match with her poor serve, and that’s something that’s been an issue for her last few tournaments. Azarenka still has issues of her own, but she’s cleaned up the unforced errors for the most part and is starting to finish matches quicker. While there’s still a ways to go, Azarenka is becoming a lot more trustworthy as she makes her comeback.

Azarenka makes the quarterfinals.

Victoria Azarenka
