Viktorija Golubic and Lucie Safarova meet in the second round of the 2016 French Open.

Viktorija Golubic is coming off a three set victory over Alison Riske that took 23 games to decide. In the victory, Golubic 48 percent of her first serve points and 43 percent of her second serve points. It was a very sloppy performance from both sides and none of the sets lasted more than eight games. Still, Golubic will take her win over a top-100 player and enjoy her chance at what would be the biggest win of her young career. Golubic has now won eight of her last 10 matches when you include qualifying, and she really heads into this match with nothing to lose. Golubic has never made it to the third round of a grand slam.

Lucie Safarova is coming off a straight sets win over Vitalia Diatchenko that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Safarova won 90 percent of her first serve points and had just 11 unforced errors. Safarova did a good job of finishing her points quickly and didn’t beat herself, resulting in such a quick match. Safarova has won her last three matches in straight sets and looks like she’s put those injury concerns behind her, at least for the time being. Safarova is a big time threat if she can continue to dominate her service game the way she did in round one. Safarova has made at least the third round in six of her last eight grand slam appearances.

This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.

It looks like Safarova is on a mission to get back into the top-10 and make up for lost time after missing the Australian Open. This isn’t a match that should slow her down. Golubic is a fighter and can make plays at the net given her deep doubles background, but she’s no match here.

Safarova wins another quick match in straight sets.
