Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Chinese superstar, Wang Qiang, has made it into the third round of the 2018 WTA Wuhan Open where she will take on Daria Gavrilova from Australia for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Daria Gavrilova has had a very strong tournament as she has managed to win both of her matches in straight sets. While both wins have come with ease, Daria Gavrilova needs to improve her serving as she has lost 5 service games in 4 sets while hitting 9 double faults. Errors from her opponents have allowed Daria Gavrilova to get away with her problematic serve but she will need to improve since her opponent is in good form and may not provide as many opportunities to break serve.

On the other side of the court, Wang Qiang has been riding the momentum of the home fans to continue her run in this tournament. Wang has been getting huge support from the crowd and the atmosphere has made been a huge boost for the Chinese player. It has been a very good few weeks for Wang as she won the Guangzhou Open last week and made the semifinals of the Pan Pacific Open 2 weeks ago. Wang Qiang had a big win over a top 10 player, Pliskova in the last round and with the momentum from that win, she will be very hard to stop.

These two have met once in the past which was at Wimbledon in 2016 where Daria Gavrilova won.

While Daria Gavrilova has been dominant in this tournament, I see her run ending in this match. This will be the first time that Daria Gavrilova is playing an inform play and I think she will struggle considering she will have the crowd against her. With the momentum of a WTA title win and the crowd behind her, I see Wang Qiang winning this match.
