Wang Qiang vs Dayana Yastremska 2018 Hong Kong Open Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Dayana Yastremska will play Wang Qiang in the final of the 2018 WTA Hong Kong Open.

This will be the first time that Dayana Yastremska has made the final a WTA event. It has been an exceptional tournament for Dayana Yastremska as she is yet to lose a single set. Dayana Yastremska won her semifinal match with ease as she Zhang Shuai with ease. In that victory, Dayana Yastremska received serve exceptionally well as she won 5 breakpoints while winning close to 50% of the points played during Zhang’s service games. It has been a great few weeks for Dayana Yastremska as she performed well at the China Open prior to this tournament. As far as form is concerned, Dayana Yastremska looks very capable but it will be interesting if she can handle the pressure of a final as she is only 18-years-old and has never experienced such a match in the past.

On the other side of the court, Wang Qiang has continued her exceptional Asian leg of the tour as she has made another final. Since the US Open, Wang Qiang’s worst finish has been a semifinal loss with her current run winning her the WTA Guangzhou Open title. Wang Qiang has been incredible in this tournament as she has only lost one set in the entire event. Wang beat Garbine Muguruza in the semifinal as she dominated her opponents serve by winning 7 breakpoints. With form on her side and the conditions in Asia familiar, Wang Qiang will be very hard to beat.

All in all, I am going to pick Wang Qiang to win this match. While Dayana Yastremska has been exceptional, I see her lack of experience cost her in this match. Wang Qiang is a very experienced player having won 2 WTA titles in the past. Taking all the facts into consideration, I am picking Wang Qiang to win this match and win her third WTA title.
