Afghanistan vs. West Indies
|Date & Time||Thursday July 4, 2019, 5:30 AM (EDT)|
West Indies -400 / Afghanistan +300
The West Indies and Afghanistan will play each other as both teams finish their 2019 ICC World Cup campaign.
The West Indies have only 3 points from their 8 matches. In their previous match, the West Indies were beaten by Sri Lanka.
The loss to Sri Lanka was largely due to the bowling from the West Indies. The likes of Shannon Gabriel and Carlos Brathwaite were very expensive and that allowed Sri Lanka to score 338. Jason Holder, Oshane Thomas, and Fabian Allen were the three best bowlers for the West Indies as they all took wickets and were economical.
It was a solid batting display by the West Indies although it was not enough to get the victory. The West Indies scored 315 runs in their 50 overs. Nicholas Pooran was outstanding as he scored 118 off 103 balls. Fabien Allen also played an outstanding inning of 51 from only 32 balls.
It has been a tough tournament for the West Indies as they have been close to winning most matches but have failed at the final hurdle. The West Indies will be hopeful of finishing with 5 points.
Looking at Afghanistan, they suffered a shattering defeat to Pakistan in their previous match. Afghanistan still have no points in this tournament.
Afghanistan were extremely close to upsetting Pakistan as they had taken 7 vital wickets. Imad Wasim took the game away from Afghanistan with his own bat. It was a good bowling display from Afghanistan as they spinners were very hard to get away Mujeeb, Nabi and Rashid Khan all bowled well and combined to take 5 wickets.
Unfortunately for Afghanistan, the batting has been very poor and that was evident during the game against Pakistan. Afghanistan only managed 227 which was never going to be enough.
This match between the West Indies and Afghanistan is set to be played at Headingley in
Taking everything into consideration, I am picking the West Indies to win this match. The West Indies are a far superior batting unit and I don’t see Afghanistan having enough depth to compete with the total the likes of Pooran and Gayle are going to set.
