The Line: Liberty -8 -- Over/Under: 161.5
League Pass, MSG, The U Too
The Chicago Sky and New York Liberty meet Friday in WNBA action at Madison Square Garden.
The Chicago Sky look for another victory after splitting their last six games. The Chicago Sky are averaging 78.8 points on 44.9 percent shooting and allowing 84.8 points on 42.7 percent shooting. Allie Quigley is averaging 16 points and three assists while Stefanie Dolson is averaging 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds. Cappie Pondexter is the third double-digit scorer and Tamera Young is dishing 2.6 assists. The Chicago Sky are shooting 35.2 percent from beyond the arc and 74.5 percent from the free throw line. The Chicago Sky are allowing 31.2 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 35.5 rebounds per game. The Chicago Sky have lost four of their last six road games.
The New York Liberty look for a victory here to get a game above a .500 record. The New York Liberty are averaging 78.8 points on 42.2 percent shooting and allowing 80.5 points on 40.7 percent shooting. Tina Charles is averaging 20.8 points and 9.1 rebounds while Epiphanny Prince is averaging 13.7 points and four assists. Sugar Rodgers is the third double-digit scorer and Shavonte Zellous is grabbing 3.8 rebounds. The New York Liberty are shooting 31 percent from beyond the arc and 76.7 percent from the free throw line. The New York Liberty are allowing 35 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 38 rebounds per game. The New York Liberty have won four of their last five home games.
The Sky are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, 1-6 ATS in their last 7 vs. Eastern Conference and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest. The Liberty are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games playing on 3 or more days rest and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Sky are 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings in New York, 12-4-1 ATS in the last 17 meetings and the under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
The Chicago Sky are finally showing signs of life, but they're still being outscored by more than three points in their last five games, while the Liberty are being outscored by six points in their last five games. This is a steep price to lay for either side given the up-and-down play. That's why I'm avoiding the line and backing the under, a popular trend when these two teams meet and the Liberty are shooting just 40.1 percent in their recent contests. The under seems like the safer bet than playing around with eight points from either side.
