The Line: Connecticut Sun -13.5 -- Over/Under: 155.5
The Las Vegas Aces and Connecticut Sun meet Sunday in WNBA action at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Las Vegas Aces are the latest sports team to take their talents to the Sin City and hope they can have similar success as the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Coming over from San Antonio, the Aces are fresh off a rough season, but there’s a lot of young talent to get excited about. Players such as Kayla McBride, Moriah Jefferson, Kelsey Plum and A’ja Wilson all have oodles of potential and will form one of the top young squads in the league once they start to come together and tap into their potential. Bill Laimbeer is a championship coach who preaches defense and can get the best out of his players, and he hasn’t had a losing season since 2014. The Las Vegas Aces have tons of upside, it’s just a question of how quickly things start to turn for what was a struggling franchise before the move.
The Connecticut Sun were arguably the hottest team in the second half of the season and have increased expectations because of that stretch. The main reason many are high on the Sun is the return of Chiney Ogwumike, who was the rookie of the year in 2014 and is a double-double threat every night. Pair her with players such as Jonquel Jones, Alyssa Thomas and Jasmine Thomas, and there’s a ton of firepower to go around. The Sun also have a talented rookie in Lexie Brown, who was a scoring machine in college and could add an immediate spark to this squad. The Connecticut Sun have a dark horse title contender and a potential team you should be looking to lock a future bet on if you can.
The Aces are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference, 13-5-1 ATS in their last 19 road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Sun are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. Western Conference and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Aces are 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Connecticut and 2-6-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings.
There's going to be a lot of value with the Las Vegas Aces early, as this team isn't nearly as bad as last years record indicates. However, the Connecticut Sun are one of the better teams in the league and will be eager to get off to a faster start than a year ago. With the return of Ogwumike, the Sun are deep and explosive. It's going to take time for the Aces to get their feet under them given the youth and coaching change. I'll take the home team in a blowout.
