The Washington Mystics and Connecticut Sun meet Saturday in WNBA action at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

The Washington Mystics are the team that benefits most from what happened to the Seattle Storm, as majority of last years roster returns and there’s a lot of hungry players with this franchise never winning a title. Elena Delle Donne has to be one of the favorites to win MVP this season, while Kristi Toliver, Ariel Atkins and LaToya Sanders return as double-digit scorers. Getting Emma Meesseman back from a year overseas is huge, as she was tapping into some of the best play of her career before she left for Team Belgium. The Washington Mystics make a case as the most explosive team in the league and will be fun to watch offensively. As long as the Mystics can put together consistent stops, this could be the team to beat in the WNBA this season.

The Connecticut Sun are coming off a 21-win season and look to build on that accomplishment, but they traded away last years leading scorer Chiney Ogwumike to the Los Angeles Sparks. Only time will tell how that pays off, but the Sun are loaded with guard play and players who can shoot the rock. Courtney Williams, Jasmine Thomas, Jonquel Jones and Alyssa Thomas were all double-digit scorers last season and can knockdown the three-ball at solid percentages. It’s fair to question the depth beyond those players, but the Sun should be able to score with the best of them, and that’s going to keep them in games. The Connecticut Sun have a chance to make the playoffs for a third straight season.

The Mystics are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. Eastern Conference, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games. The Sun are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 vs. Eastern Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games. The Mystics are 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings and the over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Connecticut. The over is 7-2 in Sun last 9 overall.

We saw some sluggish play last night and it's probably going to take some time for teams to make adjustments and knock off the rust. Let's not forget that there's only a couple of preseason games for each team, so the first few games of the regular season are still a feeling out process. This total is extremely high for a season opener, especially with the Mystics not having Elena Delle Donne due to a knee injury. This is a game the Connecticut Sun need to take advantage of, but the safer pick feels like the under.
