The Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever meet Saturday in WNBA action at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The Chicago Sky are coming off a rough 12-win season and hope to improve defensively to get back in the playoff race. The Sky have a lot of proven veterans in Stefanie Dolson, Courtney Vandersloot and Allie Quigley, so there’s really no excuse why this team can’t compete this season. Vandersloot is one of the top point guards in the game and should get these girls plenty of open looks and make for a more consistent offense. Alaina Coates also returns after missing her whole rookie season due to an ankle injury. Speaking of young players, new draft picks Gabby Williams and Diamond DeShields will have their chances to provide an impact right away and have promising careers if their college numbers are any indication of things to come. The Chicago Sky have the ability to be the most improved team in the WNBA this season if everything comes together.

The Indiana Fever had an ugly first year without Tamika Catchings, winning just nine games, and now they put out a young team that hopes can turn the corner sooner than expected. Not having Briann January running the point could limit the offense in a big way and result in another frustrating season. However, Erica Wheeler does bring some stability to the Fever and should end up being the face of this franchise, while rookie Kelsey Mitchell is a legit outside shooter who should bring a spark to Indiana right away. The Fever also get back Tiffany Mitchell, who missed time with a knee injury but is expected to be healthy, and she has double-digit scoring potential while rebounding well for her position. The Indiana Fever have their work cut out for them with this roster, but they will defend well and have some young players who are eager to prove the critics wrong.

The Sky are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Saturday games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Fever are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games. The Sky are 5-1-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings in Indiana, 1-3-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings and the under is 11-3 in the last 14 meetings in Indiana.

The Chicago Sky are probably the better team than the Indiana Fever, but it's opening day for these clubs and we really don't know anything until they get some games under their belt. In a pick em game, I'm going to give the edge to the home team. It's the only real edge you have heading into the first game. Neither of these teams made the playoffs last year, and while they're both expected to be better, you have to show up first. The Fever also usually play very well at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
